Since Jereme and I started following Torah, we’ve seen this question pop up quite a bit in our circles:
“What religion are you? Are you Jewish now?”
So I just wanted to take a minute to provide a concise answer that will (hopefully) clear up some confusion.
No, we are not Jewish. At least not in the sense of how most of the world defines Judaism. We do not follow a religion. Religions are man-made. We believe the whole Bible, from Genesis all the way to Revelation, is as true, relevant, and applicable to our lives today as it was to those living when the Old Testament narratives occurred. We worship YHWH, the God of the Bible, and are saved by grace through faith in Yahshua our Messiah. (You may know him as Jesus; Yahshua is his name in Hebrew.) And we do our best to keep the commandments of God and to observe his holy days and Feasts, because we love Him and sincerely want to live out our lives in obedience to His will. We do not consider ourselves to be religious. Religion is full of burdensome, man-made traditions. On the other hand, faith in Yahshua and following his Father’s instructions leads us to His truth and freedom from the curse of sinful disobedience.
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Rev. 14:12
When we first came into this walk, I was very hesitant to share that with anyone, mostly because it was all so new to us and I felt the need to understand some things better before opening my mouth. It has been one year, and I still feel like a newborn babe, but He has given me more confidence to speak up. For that, I am very thankful, and repentant of the fear and hesitation that once held me back.
If you are new to this and somehow stumbled upon my blog, welcome! I hope this encourages you. Remember that we are all students of the Word. Even those who deem themselves teachers are students. We learn from each other and should not be afraid to share what He has put on our hearts. Whether we turn out to be right or wrong, the more we wrestle with Him, with His Word, and with each other on matters of truth, the closer we’ll get to Him and to fully walking in His ways.
