To the girl with the pipes that just won’t quit…

Don’t stop screamin’ little one.

It doesn’t matter how frustrated I become. Even if I start to throw a tantrum over the fact that you’re throwing one, I want you to always remember these five little words.

Don’t stop screamin’, little one.

There’s no doubt about it. You got your mama’s pipes, and you’re on a mission to let the whole world know.

Even if it’s 1 a.m. and neither of us have slept more than 3 hours in the last 24…

Don’t stop screamin’, little one.

When the world says things like:

“Pipe down.”

“Cool your jets.”

“Be quiet.”

“Use your inside voice.”

“Stop crying.”

“Stop yelling.”

“Stop screaming.”

I want you to scream even louder.

So loud, you wake up the neighbors.

So loud, you wake up the city of Charlotte.

So loud, you wake up the world from the slumber it’s been in for the last 2000+ years since Jesus died and rose again.

Don’t worry if mama and daddy get upset. It’s just temporary. Because at the end of the day, we know in our hearts that God gave you a voice, and you should use it.

Don’t stop screamin’, little one.

Even when you’re not so little anymore.

Especially when you’re not so little anymore.

Don’t pipe down. Show the world the set of pipes you’ve been given. Make ’em listen and give ’em hell. No — you can do even better than that — give ’em heaven.

Don’t cool your jets. Warm them up for this trip called life that you’ll be taking for the next 80 to 100 years (God willing.) You’re gonna need them.

Don’t be quiet. Don’t hush. Speak loud. Speak loud and clear.

Inside voices are for people who never get outside the box.

Cry. Weep. Blubber. Whatever you need to do. Those who mourn shall be comforted, so cry to your heart’s content. Yell and scream as loud as you need, for as long as you need. You have something important to say, and the world needs to hear it.

You are so special, little one. There are times when your crying hurts my heart so much I have to step out of the room so I won’t have to hear it anymore. And as soon as I do, I long to hear your voice again, right away. It doesn’t matter if you’re crying or laughing, pouting or smiling. Either way, you’re communicating, and communication is the key to any beautiful relationship.

From now until the end of time, I want you to feel free to come to me with anything. Don’t be afraid to cry on my shoulder. I will wipe your tears when that boy breaks your heart, and I’ll stand by you when you break his. Don’t be afraid to yell at me when I’ve hurt your feelings. I won’t hesitate for one second to say, “I’m sorry.”

I’m your mama, and you are my daughter. I believe in you, and right now, you believe in me and daddy more than anyone else in the world. Some day, you’ll believe in the One who made us even more than you believe in us, but for now, we’ve been given this charge: to care for you and to love you as God has loved us. And no matter what comes your way, I want you to always remember these five little words:

Don’t stop screamin’ little one.
